That Time of Year

It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas around the Smith household.  This year Drew was determined to decorate the outside of the house. Even though all the decorations don't exactly match, it looks pretty good.  We even managed to get our tree up and decorated.  Lots of people warned me that trees can be a hazard with two toddlers, but so far it hasn't posed too big of a threat.  The twins are fascinated with all the decorations, but I explained that the tree was a "no touch" and that seems to have stuck with them.  According to Emily all of the decorations are "cool."

I think this is a really neat picture of the tree!

Morning Naps

Today is the day that morning naps are officially a thing of the past.  The twins having been trying to drop their morning naps for about a month, but I have been resistant.  I LOVE morning nap time.  It's when I have time to take a shower and get dressed for day.  Today I had to get my shower before they got up.  It's going to be a tough transition, but I knew this day was coming.  Goodbye morning naps....I will miss you!

My last picture of morning naps

Emily had fallen asleep with her cup in her mouth.  I know I'm not suppose to let them nap with their cups...don't judge me!

Thanksgiving 2012

We had a great Thanksgiving here at the Smith household.  Pops and I cooked up a storm.  I love cooking with Pops because he does most (ok..all) of the hard work, but he still let's me contribute.  The twins loved playing with their cousins and getting to eat at the kids' table.  We even managed to get in a family picture before lunch.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Slowing Down

One of my girlfriends recently had her first baby and this really got me thinking about how much I enjoyed the twins being little babies.  At least I enjoy the memory of them being little babies.  I'm not sure that I actually slowed down enough to truly enjoy it.  Life with infant twins is REALLY difficult.  There was/is never a dull moment.  When you finally get one calmed down, the other one needs you.  Not to mention, Elson cried for pretty much the entire first four months of his of life (thank you acid reflux and colic).  Those first few months were about pure survival, and to some extent it is still like that.  Still to this day, they are both incredibly clingy and needy.  It can be difficult to go anywhere because it's usually two-on-one and someone will undoubtedly have a breakdown of some sort.  I try not to think about anything before doing it.  If I think too much about it, I will get nervous and decide it is easier to just stay home, and that's not fair to anyone.  All that being said, I LOVE being Emily and Elson's Momma.  When I married Drew, I felt like I found my purpose in being his partner, but now I feel fulfilled in a whole new way.  Everyday I get to spend time with my sweet family and I couldn't be any luckier.  From this day forward, I vow to SLOW DOWN and enjoy every minute of each stage of our life.  I mean it...every temper tantrum, every clingy cry, every blow out diaper, everything!  Because one day sooner than I would like, they aren't going to want to have anything to do with me, and I will long for the days when all they wanted was their Momma!

"Oh no, you laid us down!"

This picture says it all...screaming babies and an unshaven husband!

Check out how exhausted I look!

Still clinging to Momma (Elson was obviously still trying to process our loss to Bama from the previous week)

Sci-Port

I know I haven't been staying on top of my blogging, but we have been busy!  I also decided to stop doing the week in my phone and switch to the month in my phone...it was too much pressure!  On to the real point of this blog post....

Last Tuesday I took the twins and their sweet cousins, who were out of school for Election Day, to Sci-Port, which is a really great science center here in Shreveport.  The best part about Sci-Port is that it has an area dedicated to young children.  I think everyone had a good time.  We especially loved getting to spend time with Ellie, Anna Claire, and Maddie.

Back Down South

A couple of weeks ago, Drew had some work to do down in Baton Rouge, so the twins and I tagged along.  It was nice to be back in Baton Rouge for a couple of days.  We even got to grab lunch with a few friends while in town.  After Drew finished up his work, we headed to NOLA to spend some time with my family.  I was a little worried about the twins destroying my Grandmother's house, but they did much better than I expected.  We even managed to take a trip to the aquarium one day, which in hindsight the twins are still a little too young to fully enjoy.  All in all, it was a nice trip!

Tough Loss

Our beloved LSU Tigers had a tough loss tonight and all the Smiths are sad about it.  Tears were shed....but not as many as were shed by Alabama Quaterback McCarron.

A Not-So-Spooky Halloween Bash

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, so we decided to have our friends over for A Not-So-Spooky Halloween Bash.  It was so much fun to see all the kiddos dressed up in their adorable Halloween costumes.  We decided to dress up as my favorite line from the Wizard of Oz - "Lions, and Tigers, and Bears, Oh My!" Elson was a lion, Emily was a tiger, I was a bear, and Drew was the Oh My.  We had a great time at the party.  I loved getting to hang out with all of our friends and the twins loved getting to trick-or-treat the neighborhood with their buddies.  We have the best neighbors.  Ms. Joanie brought over some wonderful cupcakes for all the kids and Ellen had special Halloween rubber duckies for the twins.  It was a good time....I even let the twins stay up an extra hour!
