Baby Smith

Have I gotten your attention with this post title?  Well, it's not what you think!  It's Emily's baby.  Momie and I took her to get a baby doll on Friday and she found love.  We tried every doll in the store until we found Baby Smith.  She grabbed that doll and held it so tightly there was no taking it from her.  In fact, when the store clerk checked the tag, Emily clutched on to the doll and hollered as if to say "don't touch my baby!!"  It was priceless.

Drew's Birthday

Today is Drew's birthday.  I won't say how old he is because he is ageless!!  As a little hint to his age, he is watching "The Antique Road Show" as I type this.  Haha!  To celebrate his birthday, the twins and I took him to a nice lunch and now we are going to gorge on cookies!  Happy birthday to the greatest man I know!

My Last Year as a Twenty-Something

Today I turned the big 2-9.  It was a great day!  Drew woke me up with coffee and yummy, warm donuts. Drew and I aren't the only ones that love donuts....both the twins ate them up! The twins and I then hung out and napped before meeting Drew for lunch.  After lunch, the twins and I took afternoon naps (as you can tell it was a napping kind of day).  We are enjoying a nice night at home tonight.  Drew's birthday is Monday, so we will go out to dinner tomorrow to celebrate both of our birthdays (and as a bonus Momie has offered to babysit).

A Box of Fun

All babies love an empty box and ours are no exception.  We set up their carseat boxes and let them run/crawl wild.

"Hey Dad, are you sure this is stable?"

Summer Fun

The twins and I joined a few of our friends for some summer fun at the pool on Friday.  I was a little nervous that Elson wouldn't get in the water.  He was okay as long as I was holding him, which was a problem because Emily also wanted to be held.  However, both of them loved watching the older kids jump off the side of the pool and splash!  It was a lot of fun!  Unfortunately, with a baby in each arm, I didn't get very many good pictures.  I did manage to snap a few candids.

New Shoes

Since Emily is getting around mostly by foot these days, we decided it was time to get these kiddos some shoes!  They were a little confused by them at first, but they seem to have gotten used to wearing their big kid shoes.

One Year Stats

We went to the doctor on Monday for the twins 12 month checkup.  Both babies looked good and are growing right along their growth charts (keep in mind the growth charts are different for boys and girls).  Here are the stats:

Emily
Weight - 17 lb (10%)
Height - 27.5 in (5%)
Head - 45.5 cm (60%)

Elson
Weight - 17 lb 10 oz (5%)
Height - 28.25 in (5%)
Head - 45 cm (25%)

Now that the twins are a year old, they can switch from breast milk to cows milk, and I couldn't be more grateful!!  I'm hoping to have them completely off  (and my body done producing) breast milk in a week.  I am truly thankful that I have been able to keep them both on breast milk for so long, but it has been a difficult and tedious journey that I'm ready end.

Here are a few then and now pictures.  They have grown so much!!

Birthday Bash

The twins had their first birthday party this weekend.  Elson refused to nap the day of the party.  I was nervous he would be a terror, but he seemed to hold it together for the most part.  Emily was her usual easy-going self.  The twins received some fabulous birthday gifts (I really need to step up my gift giving :)).  The party was great, but what touched Drew and I the most was the love we felt from everyone that came out to celebrate our very own Thing 1 and Thing 2.  We are blessed to have so many amazing friends and family.

Good Night!!

One Year Old

The twins are one year old today!!  We started out the birthday celebration with a happy birthday song and birthday pancakes (pancakes made with cake batter and sprinkles).  They were yummy, but I have to say that Drew makes a much better pancake than I do.  We are spending the rest of the day getting ready for the birthday bash tomorrow.

I feel extremely emotional about my sweet, little babies turning one, but mostly I feel proud that Drew and I somehow managed to survive the first year of twins!

This is a pancake Drew made...mine didn't look this good.

What a Difference a Year Makes

A year ago today, Drew and I were preparing for a scheduled c-section a few days later.  Little did we know that at 10pm my water would break.  If the anesthesiologist had been available when we arrived at the hospital, today would have been the twins birthday.  A year later, here we are getting ready for the big day tomorrow and the party on Saturday.  What a difference a year makes!!

Big Kid Car Seats

In preparation for the twins' first birthday this week, we thought we would put them in big kid car seats (as opposed to the infant car seats we had been using).  After Drew researched car seats until he was an expert, we decided on the Recaro convertible car seats.  Luckily, Ladies in Waiting (a local Shreveport favorite) had these in stock and even delivered them to our house!!  Elson usually hates the car seat, but I think he likes this one a little better.  We also installed mirrors so that we could see them and they could stare at themselves, which they love to do.

Wobbly Walkers

At this point I would call the twins wobbly walkers.  They usually walk about five steps before falling, but they are getting stronger everyday.  I can't believe how big my once little babies are getting.  I can barely even tell they were preemies.

Watching a Little TV

I know some people don't let their kids watch television, but we usually let the twins watch a little TV while they take their bottles.  Currently, their favorite show is "The Wiggles."
