Backyard Swings

The twins enjoy swinging at the park so much that Drew put up a couple of swings in the backyard for them. This helps my day tremendously. Whenever one or both of the twins get fussy, we simply go in the backyard and swing. We even got a canopy to go over the swings to avoid any sunburns. These swings are so comfortable they sometimes put the twins to sleep!! I think it's a combination of the swinging motion and the heat.  Check out the video below of Elson falling asleep!

Give Me A Kiss

The other day as the twins were playing together, all of the sudden Elson leaned over and gave Emily a big kiss right on the face.  Emily looked at him quizzically and then reciprocated.  Of course, I grabbed the camera and snapped away.  Even though it was a little strange because they only know how to kiss open mouthed, it was so sweet.  They love each other so much!

Sleeping Babies

The twins are great sleepers.  They weren't always this way, but thanks to the help of "Twelve Hours by Twelve Weeks" we taught these babies how to sleep.  We put them to bed at 6:30pm and don't go back in their room until 6:30am.  They don't sleep the whole time.  They usually play in their cribs before they fall asleep and when they wake up in the morning.  Elson has a bad habit of waking up around 5:30am to fill his diaper.  He then announces it to the house and falls back asleep.  Their morning nap is 8:30-10:00 and their afternoon nap is 1:00-3:00.  Some days naps go smoothly and some days not so smoothly.  On days when they nap poorly, it is torture.  They fuss and cling to me until it is time to go back down.  But we seem to be have more good nap days than bad...and I'll take that!

These were the days when we were learning to sleep.

Parking It

On Saturday, the twins and I headed to the park for some fun in the sun.  There is a really great park within walking distance that has swings, lots of slides that we are still too young for, and a water feature that we also are too young to enjoy.  This park is a lot of fun and I think the twins will enjoy it even more once they are able to partake in the big kid stuff.  For now, we stick to the baby swings and people watching.  Drew had to spend some time at the office in the morning, but was able to meet us for the picnic portion of our day.  A good time was had by all.

Baths at 10 Months

Bathtime at 10 months is so much fun.  The twins love to splash and play with their toys.  I think it may be their favorite part of the day.  We bath them together in the big tub, so they still fall over sometimes.  We also have a problem with standing in the tub.  I've lost count of how many times Drew and I remind them to "stay on their bums."

So much fun!!

Uh oh....I think brother fell down!

Sam the Dog

Sam has had a difficult time (to say the least) adjusting to the twins.  When we first brought the twins home he would bark if they cried.  After about a day of that and a good talking to from Drew, he stopped the barking, but the love/hate relationship continued.  He desperately wants to be in the same room as the twins, but doesn't want ANY physical interaction.  This has become a problem now that the twins are mobile.  The vet encouraged us to keep them seperated due to Sam's "negative reaction" to children.  The twins spend most of their time in the back den/playroom, so I put a gate up to the kitchen where Sam spends most of this time.  This seems to work pretty well for now, but sooner or later Sam the Dog is going to have to come to terms with the fact that the Emily and Elson are here to stay!!

Poor Sammy didn't have a clue that his life was about to change

Mother's Day

We had a fabulous Mother's Day in the Smith household.  It was my first Mother's Day as the momma of two little munchkins.  Mother's Day has been a difficult day for me for the past few years, but this year was full of so much joy and love.  I feel so lucky to be Emily and Elson's momma!!  We are blessed!!

Happy Mother's Day!!

Welcome to Blogger...An Introduction

I have finally decided to start blogging.  These twins are growing up too fast and I would like a way to look back and remember these crazy, fun days!  As I'm sure everyone knows Emily and Elson were born July 13, 2011 at 12:43 and 12:44am, respectively.  At 33 weeks and 5 days pregnant my water broke at around 10pm.  Drew and I were in bed asleep when I awoke to what i thought was me peeing on myself.  I quickly realized that it was in fact not urine, but rather my water!!!!  I stayed realatively calm....Drew freaked out.  He ran to the car three times with nothing in hand.  When we arrived at the hospital we had no idea where to go (we had only been told where to go for a scheduled delivery).  Funny story...As I waited in the car, Drew went into the hospital and asked the night receptionist "where do we go when the water breaks?"  To which she replied "What water?"  haha!!  We were then  directed to the emergency room where the best OB that money can buy (Greg Phillips if anyone is looking for a good OB) meet us and delivered the twins via c-section.  Emily was 4lbs 1oz and Elson was 3lbs 7oz.  They were wisked to NICU where they stayed for 21 days.  Life hasn't been the same since they arrived....it's been better!!  We love them like crazy and feel so blessed that God answered our prayers!

They are now 9 1/2 months old and sooooo much fun.  Emily used to be the quiet one but has recently come out of her shell.  She crawls and pulls up, has 6 teeth (4 on top and 2 on bottom), hoards toys, isn't a great eater but loves her sippy cup, and loves to sing at a very high pitch.  Elson has always been the loud one and hasn't changed one bit.  He also crawls and pulls up and can even free stand for a few seconds, he has 2 teeth, a short attention span, loves to eat, and screams bloody murder when he gets his feelings hurt (which seems to happen often as he is a sensitive soul).

About a week before the twins came...this picture does not do my giant belly justice.
